Background

Polar LNG is a U.S. Arctic energy infrastructure company advancing a nearshore liquefied natural gas project at Prudhoe Bay on Alaska’s North Slope — home to one of the largest untapped natural gas resources in the world. Led by industry veteran Joel Riddle, the venture set out to bring Alaskan gas to market through scalable Arctic infrastructure, strengthening U.S. energy security and opening one of the shortest LNG shipping routes from North America to key Asian markets.

This was no ordinary launch. With a planned investment of $8–9 billion, Polar LNG was a project of national strategic significance, one that would be pitched directly to the U.S. Government and the world’s leading energy investors. The brand had to carry that weight from its very first appearance.

Challenge

Polar LNG needed to arrive fully formed. As a brand-new entrant, it would make its first impression on investors, government, industry, and the people of Alaska all at once, and at the highest possible stakes. The identity had to project the scale, credibility, and Arctic capability of a multi-billion-dollar undertaking, standing shoulder to shoulder with established global majors despite being days old. There was no room for a soft launch. Everything had to communicate that this was a serious player on a serious mission.

Solution

Working directly with Joel Riddle from Washington, D.C., we developed the complete brand and website to anchor the launch.
The strategy centred Polar LNG on its defining advantage: the ability to operate where others can’t. That idea became the brand’s guiding line — Breaking through to energy’s new frontier — capturing both the literal act of cutting through Arctic ice and the bigger ambition of unlocking a resource the world had written off as too hard to reach.

The brandmark is shaped like the hull of an icebreaker, cutting forward and splitting everything in its path. A sharp diamond slices through the centre to form the North Star, the navigator’s mark, guiding LNG carriers safely through Alaska’s frozen waters. It's an icon that works as hard at the scale of a building façade as it does on a ship’s hull or a worker’s uniform.

The colour palette draws straight from the territory. The Alaskan Navy blue grounds the brand in the deep, serious tones of Arctic water and night sky, while Cornflower Blue, a nod to Alaska’s state flower, adds a distinctly local signature and a note of optimism. A bold, condensed, all-caps wordmark gives the system the industrial authority the sector demands: fast, forward-leaning, and built to command attention.

Results

Polar LNG launched with the presence and authority of an established major, despite being a brand-new venture. The brand made its first impression on the world stage and was featured across major energy and business press, including Oil & Gas Journal, Offshore-Energy.biz, gCaptain, Energy Intelligence, CompressorTECH², Business Insider and Semafor, with coverage spotlighting the project's $8–9 billion scale and Arctic ambition. Well received by Alaskan locals and international investors alike, the brand gave a project of national strategic significance the credibility it demanded in front of the highest-stakes audiences, the U.S. Government and the world’s leading energy investors. Backed by an identity that matched its ambition, Polar LNG scaled fast, growing to almost 50 employees within three months of launch.

“I’ve worked with Dan Rowell and DSR Branding since 2019. So when it came to developing the brand identity and website for Polar LNG, a brand new venture I was leading, the decision was easy. I called Dan, got his team working on it, and once again they delivered a result I’m proud of.”
